Port Performance
The Sasa Port in Davao City serves as the main base port, catering to both domestic and foreign vessels and handling the bulk of cargo shipments in the region. The volume of cargo at the Sasa Port registered a decline based on data gathered from the period 2010-2013 by 2% for domestic cargo and -4% for foreign cargo. The downtrend is attributed mainly to the poor container handling facilities at Sasa Port and also due to the devastation brought about by Typhoon Pablo which affected the major cargo product, bananas. However, with the expected increase in the volume of cargo and vessels, the modernization of the Sasa Port through a Public Private Partnership is proposed. Currently Sasa Port is now managed by private company – DIPSSCOR, subsidiary of ICTSI.
