Rajbiraj is the district headquarters of Saptari District, Madesh Province and is located approximately 521 km from the capital, Kathmandu. The airport is situated 5km south of central Rajbiraj at Bisangapur Municipality. The 1st operation of the airport was started on 20th Feb 1960 and was completely shutdown, the airport resumed its operations on 23 May 2018. National airline operate direct flights from Kathmandu to Rajbiraj daily. (flight time 35 minutes).
