Overview 

The Kanchanpur customs office is the second customs office for Sudurpashchim province. It lies on the border of Nepal - India at the Sarada Barrage in Bhimdatta Municipality, along the Mahakali River of Sudurpashcim Province, Nepal. The local population rely on an old bridge of the Sarada barrage. Loaded vehicles are prohibited to use the Sarada barrage bridge. The closest bridge is approximately 15 Km away from the customs office at Tanakpur over the Mahakali river, which connects to the Indian road network. 

Kanchanpur is a minor border crossing, rated no.16 of  27 border crossings in terms import share, 0.09% of total country import share value during July 2022-May 2023.  

Two warehouses and one shed are present within the Kanchanpur customs office premises. Each has a capacity of 400 m2. A total area of 10,117.2 m2 of open space is also available.  

Daily Capacity 

Daily capacity of the customs office is 100 to 200 trucks per day. The bridge over the Mahakali River on the India side (Banabassa) is dilapidated and allows only 10 MT vehicle maximum.

Other Relevant Information 

The delays at Border Posts can be extensive – from 2 days to a week long but Integrated check post (ICP) in Birgunj takes shorter days than a main custom office. ASYCUDA (Automatic System in Customs Data) was implemented in this office from the fiscal year 2013/014. Passengers' bags are being checked with X-ray machines. Temporary import and travel baggage of vehicles have been collected from the customs gate as per the customs duty approved rules and regulations. The tariff of other commercial goods has been collected from the office after customs clearance as per the approved rules.
