Port Overview
Kathmandu Inland Clearance Depot (ICD) also known as Chobhar Dry Port, located at Chobhar, Kirtipur came into operation in April 2022 intending to ease export and import in Kathmandu. The ICD was established to facilitate the loading and distribution of goods in Kathmandu Valley, reducing congestion in central Kathmandu, reducing the turn-around (clearance/unloading) time for trucks, and improving vehicle utilization. Nepal Intermodal Transport Development Board (NITDB) is the managing authority of the ICD.

Customs Guidance
This port allows importers to make customs clearance of their goods in Kathmandu itself, saving them trips to the various border checkpoints from where shipments enter Nepal. Containers coming from the southern and northern border points will get an extra seal at the border point if the importers want to clear them at Kathmandu Dry Port Customs. The customs clearance process at this Port is automated using the web-based ASYCUDA system, which allows for the pre-clearing of goods. Customs pre-clearance of goods takes approximately 1-2 working days.

Importers and exporters use this facility as the offices required for Import and Export activities like customs, quarantine, and banks are available on the premises. There are fewer activities in this port, the common mode of transport is by road, and goods are transported to and from this port on trucks. Given the limited operations, there are no in-house trucking companies. However, businesses have the flexibility to use their own trucks or engage services from external trucking firms.
Port Security
The port premises are secured by a compound wall. A private security firm along with the Armed Police Force (APF) provides security 24/7.
